RE: murder vs mansluaghter

Well with risk it's not normally a criminal wrong. It's usually a civil case and cases belong in the civil courts with the person suing for damages. There is no such thing as guilty and no one is punished in a civil court. It is about making up a loss. To make an example up for a risk let's say: A o...

RE: Capital punishment

I just don't like prison. It just seems barbaric locking someone up numb for decades. If people can't control themselves maybe they need a hand. What would you prefer? Loose total liberty for 35 years or your assets? I know which I'd choose given the option in court. Maybe that should be done then. ...

RE: He got 8.5 years.

People who have done 12 years for murder. First time sex offenders who have done a couple of months, guys who have bottled someone and got community service and compulsory anger management classes. Those sort of people. Everytime you go shopping on a Saturday afternoon at your shopping centre just r...

RE: Muslim Hairdresser 'Devestated'

Some people like to make money from dubious means. I think this is simply one of them. People often use their minority interests to their advantage. Suing is one way. They can also intimidate employers on the if not I'll sue basis. People then get appointed to positions where others are more suitable.

Then and now

SCHOOL 1967 vs. 2007 Scenario: Jack goes quail hunting before school, pulls into school parking lot with shotgun in gun rack. 1967 Vice Principal comes over, looks at Jack's shotgun, goes to his car and gets his shotgun to show Jack. 2007 School goes into lock down, FBI called, Jack hauled off to ja...

RE: He got 8.5 years.

The prisons are now full. That is not correct. They are overflowing. They are spewing out the sex offenders, murderers and other violent people by the dozen to make way for the latest inmates. I wonder if anyone in government has stopped to look at the trend of dangerous people milling around in our...

RE: What, No Budget 2008 Thread?

I think it was too boring for most people! Same old stuff. More tax on booze, fags and gas. As always. Just to fund government middle east expenditions, whacky government ideas like ID cards, MP expenses, red tape and other beaurocratic nonsense and so forth. The roads remain congested, the public s...

He got 8.5 years.

Not the worst sentence the judge could have given him, but I'd be interested to know what he would have got if he had committed these crimes in the US? http://news.bbc.co.uk/1/hi/scotland/edinburgh_and_east/7293651.stm Anyone from the US willing to make some assumptions on how he would have fared th...
