Yes, of course. What I was saying was the US needs thousand of young workers to sustain its economy without even thinking of making it bigger. If it wants to remain in the playing field against China and India it needs more manpower. Unlike the UK it does have that ability to do that and I think the US should try and get as many educated and law abiding mexicans in as they can from an economic point of view.

That would be good. But as usual the bad apples are making it hard on the good ones. Something happens and then there is a knee-jerk reaction that goes too far one way or the other. And Mexico is not much help.

I like Australia's policy for making sure they have the right people in their economy. "Anyone with a degree can apply"! Or Canada's strict policy of; "only bother to apply if you have a job waiting already"!
I'm not sure if I am exaggerating there or not - just things I have heard.

That would lock most of the Mexicans out. Not many degrees swimming the river.

Lol! I don't know how true that is for Canada or Australia, but I wish the UK would do it or something similar. Oh wait the EU allows free movement of anyone within the EU. That's that idea gone then.

I wonder what the EU would do with me if I just showed up hat in hand one day. Lol!

They probably wouldn't mind... ;) I'm off to bed now - getting late over here.

Good night. I need to go watch a little TV with my wife before bed.

We've had friends along the border for quite a few years now, and they say that often you could simply go down to the stream (that's what it really is in most places) and watch the immigrants coming across at a rate that sometimes makes it peoplewatching. That's how unsecure our borders are/were.

Again I have no issue with people who are willing to assimilate into our culture and be Americans. But the border is used for a lot of other things.....A few months ago border officials stumbled on a 20odd mile long tunnel underneath the border used for drug trafficking; people sometimes cross the border to get away from Mexican authorities, kidnappers have been known to slip across in an attempt to escape jurisdiction, etc. etc.
