Prince Harry to leave Afghanistan ...

Post by Lass »

I guess it was inevitable after the news leak. He's probably all too glad to have managed to be out for as long as 10 weeks. I should think the experience did him a world of good. Credit to the UK media for agreeing to keep it secret!

Still, I think it's a shame that he has to be withdrawn at all. A prince so high on the line of succession who is doing an ordinary job along side ordinary people, and serving his country (and the world) is a fine example, methinks.

Above all, I would teach him to tell the truth ... Truth-telling, I have found, is the key to responsible citizenship. The thousands of criminals I have seen in 40 years of law enforcement have had one thing in common: Every single one was a liar. [JE Hoover]

I really feel sorry for him. I know he wanted to stay out there with his friends and its hard for both William and Harry because they have crap dug up about their mum by the media every two months.

They both deserve a break....

So true that about their Mum. Their life has been so painful. I can't imagine what it would be like to have that every day on the news like it is now.
I'm sure Harry will be able to go for another trip out there though. ;)

Yes, The media really screws lives up.

I hope Harry will be able to. I suppose he will get sent off and we won't know anything about it. Just like it should be! :)

I didn't think he should have been out there at all. Who's bright idea was it, anyway?

In my opinion, it's a stupid move to send anyone of "importance" out to fight. Imagine if he'd been killed? What would that have done to the morale of the troops, and the country? More importantly, how good would the Taliban, and anyone sympathetic to their cause, feel? Ecstatic I imagine.

We don't need a future King trying to show off how down to earth he is, or how much he's willing to fight for the principles of his country. That much is taken for granted. Instead of spurring on the country into supporting a war that probably shouldn't be happening anyway, how about you do the sensible thing and not risk giving the Taliban the greatest victory for a long time, Harry? Might be better for the country in the long run, hey...

I understand that he went out there because he feels that he should do everything he can to protect the country, and of course I admire him for that as everyone should, but I dont think we need that kind of encouragement over here. Even if he'd simply expressed a wish to go over and fight, but was turned down, that would have been enough to pick up the spirits of the soldiers over there, and wouldn't have put a Prince's life at risk.

So again, a pat on the back to Harry for having the balls to go and fight for his country, but it was still a huge risk to take that, in my eyes, wasn't necessary. The first news story I heard about the whole "Royals in Afghanistan" thing was when the media was complaining that Harry was having a holiday in Canada while the army boys he trained with were over in Afghanistan fighting for their country. I'm half-tempted to suggest that his going over to fight was simply a publicity stunt to boost the Royal's reputation. I hope it wasn't, but if it was, they want to start thinking more about what's best for the country than what's best for their PR team...

He really wants to go back and has said he hopes to as well. I bet he'll be doing a spell in Iraq soon.

Well like I say, it's a stupid idea really. I'm glad he feels like he has to do his part, but for the sake of protecting the morale of our troops, and not potentially boosting the morale of the enemy, I think he should stay here.
