Experts from the mainland and Taiwan held their first talks Tuesday to pave the way for the formal disscussion on the proposed Economic Cooperation Framework Areement (ECFA) at the next round of talks between the Association for Relations Across the Taiwan Straits and the Straits Exchange Foundation in the first half of this year. They evaluated the results and proposals of joint research and discussed the official name of the economic cooperation framework.
The agreement is expected to facilitate cross-Straits trade and economic development, boosting Taiwan’s GDP by an estimated 1.65-1.72% and creating 260000 jobs, according to Chiang Pinkung, chairman of the Straits Exchange Foundation.
After the Taiwan new leader Ma Ying-jeou took office, the relationship between both sides of the Strait is becoming better and better although there are still some countries trying to prevent the unification. It is believed that both sides belong to a whole nation. With the pace of cooperation in trade, the political unification will come.
Every evidence shows that it will be of great benefit if the cooperation is strenghened. The people from both sides of the Strait will get many benefits.
