Anti Pollution Fault (fap Filter)
The PSA group FAP filter uses a special particulate fluid, (VERY toxic, and potentially carcinogenic!),there are 2 types, which one you need depends on the build code of your vehicle, (check with your dealer), they are similarly priced at approx. £19-£30 per litre! remember that if you decide to fill the tank yourself, you still need a dealer to plug the diagnostic computer into your car to tell the ECU the tank has been filled, thats why warning lights are staying on even after filling up the fluid, basically Peugeot have got you either way! even if you fill the tank yourself, and get it re-programmed on 'Diag', the car will still has to be 're-generated', this means the diagnostic computer will run the car at high revs to clean out the filter then again, you can do this yourself by thrashing the car on the motorway at a steady 70mph for 10 mins or so staying in 5th or 6th gear, If for any reason you go below 70 doing this you will need te start the process again. If after all that the "Unblock diesel filter",warning is still on you can bet the dealer will say you need a new filter. Some people have removed the filter, (some split from the CAT, some are all one piece, If yours is one piece i suggest you leave it to a dealer), and cleaning it with various detergents/steam cleaners before replacing it, and guess what? It has been fine ever since! if you buy a replacement FAP filter from a dealer, dont be surprised to find what resembles a old one PSA just overhaul them then sell them on again, I do not know what they do,they just resemble a part from a scrappy! (maybe they use the detergent/steam cleaner method!). So a bit of DIY could well save you a small fortune.
